Hey, hey, Reader! If you're a reader like I am, listen up because I've got a GOOD one for you today. Hot take 👉 Likable Badass by Alison Fragale Last week, I heard Alison at Biz 417’s Ladies Who Launch. It was perfect timing as I’d already been reading and discussing the book with 2 of my leadership coaching clients. Alison kicked off her keynote with a fun tweet shot saying that women really want 3 things:
Funny, huh? 😀 The funny thing is that the first 2 are in the wrong order based on the research. We focus on power metrics (like equal pay), which is about control of resources. But it’s actually status indicators (like respect) that matter more and can lead to more power resources. You’re far more able to shape your status with others than you may realize. And the sweet spot we’re looking for? Friendly assertiveness. Or being a likeable badass. When you’re friendly but not assertive, people like you but don’t always see you as a leader. When you’re assertive but not friendly, people trust your competence but don’t want to work with you. See the danger zones? How can you cultivate more likeable badass status for yourself?⭐ Share your wins through stories that make others the hero and celebrate how your win benefits others/your mission. “I loved speaking at XYZ corporation today. It’s inspiring to see people-focused organizations investing in their leaders.” ⭐ Get others talking about you when you’re not in the room through the 10-10-10 challenge. Each month, work to… 👉 Meet 10 new people - expand the network of people who know and support you 👉 Make 10 small deposits - a small token of value the person didn’t expect or ask for 👉 Talk up 10 people to others - saying good things about others reflects positively on you ⭐ Raise your visibility by showing up more often with more of the right people. Walk the halls. Text connections when you think of them. Go to the community event. Bottom line: Status is based on how people see you, not what you’ve accomplished. To quote Alison: “The proof is all around us. We all know women…whom we consider likeable badasses, highly respected by us and everyone else who knows them. And, after interviewing hundreds…I know what sets these high-status women apart. It isn’t intellect or achievements or charisma–on paper, the likeable badasses look just like everyone else. They aren’t better people. They are simply better salespeople.” Likeable Badass isn’t just a catchy title. It’s a playbook for every woman who’s done hiding her brilliance to make others more comfortable. It’s science-backed. It’s witty. And it’s your permission slip to stop waiting for someone to “notice you” and start engineering your influence. So if you’ve ever wondered: ❓How do I get more visibility without selling out? ❓How do I advocate for myself without the ick? ❓How do I lead without shrinking? Start here. Always in your corner 🩷 PS If you're looking for a new title for your TBR, look no further than Likeable Badass: How Women Get the Success They Deserve by Alison Fragale, PhD! Hey-o Reader, This might be controversial, but I believe women are hard-wired to be impactful, generous speakers. Hear me out. When my son Garrett was about 5, he had a doctor’s appointment to get his well-kid shots.Since his dad got off work earlier than I did, he was on doctor duty that day. That morning, Garrett was asking about the plan...who was taking him, why I couldn’t go, what time he’d be back. I finally asked, “G, why do you want me to take you?” He looked at me and said, “Because...
