Hey-o, [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]! Welcome back to our October email series. 🌟The Life-Changing Magic of Getting Things Done 🌟 So far, we've covered part 1: Setting the Stage for Success, part 2: Activate Your Network, part 3: Make Starting (and Restarting) Easy and part 4: The Importance of Belief. We're wrapping up our series with part 5: Managing Your Mental Energy. Ever feel like you're running on empty? You've used up all your thought power, willpower and horsepower for the day? It happens, right? And when it does, those big, beautiful goals of yours can be a sad casualty. But only if you don't know how to get ahead of it. That's what we're talking about today. 🥳 Is speaking on more stages in 2025 on your list of big goals?? 🥳 It's for women with a message ready to go and want to learn—and work!— Why Mindset Matters for Goal-Getting We’ve covered the steps to achieving your most ambitious goals—setting clear objectives, aligning your network, making starting easy, and building belief in your ability to succeed. Now, we’re wrapping it all up with a final piece that often gets overlooked: managing decision fatigue. If you’ve ever felt completely drained after a long day, struggling to make even the most straightforward decisions (like where to eat dinner), you’ve experienced decision fatigue. It happens when your brain gets overloaded with too many choices, draining your ability to focus, make good decisions, and follow through on your goals. Think of it this way: If your goal is to speak more in 2025, you might need to pitch organizers, prepare presentations, or follow up on leads. But by the end of a long day filled with other decisions, finding the mental energy to act on these tasks can feel impossible. This is where managing decision fatigue becomes critical to staying on track. How Decision Fatigue Can Derail Even the Best Goals Research shows that we make around 35,000 conscious decisions every day—and just deciding what to eat accounts for 226 of them! Every decision depletes your mental energy, and the more decisions you make, the harder it becomes to stay focused, manage emotions, and follow through on goal-directed actions. Even professionals are affected. One study showed that parole judges are more likely to deny parole later in the day because they've spent all their mental energy and have no decision-making stamina left. (Note: hopefully none of us will need to keep this 👆👆👆in mind!) There was another study in which some participants got to eat cookies while others had to eat radishes. 😝 They then were given a series of challenging tasks to do. The radishes crew gave up 60% faster! They'd already spent their willpower on the stinkin' radishes! Now, imagine how this plays out in your life. By the time you finish your workday, managing family responsibilities and making decisions all day, the last thing you have energy for is pitching speaking events or practicing your presentation. This is decision fatigue at work. It’s not a lack of willpower—it’s the natural result of depleted mental energy. 3 Strategies to Manage Decision Fatigue and Stay on Track To achieve your big goals—like booking more speaking gigs in 2025—you need to reduce the mental cost of decisions and preserve your energy for what matters most. Here are three powerful ways to do that: Step 1: Know Your Limits Decision fatigue is unavoidable, but awareness is half the battle. Recognize that your mental stamina will decrease throughout the day and plan your activities accordingly.
Step 2: Train Yourself to Grow Your Stamina Just like physical endurance, you can train your brain to manage decisions more effectively. Simple self-regulatory exercises—like being mindful of your posture or planning your meals—can help build mental resilience over time.
Step 3: Create Habits that Automate Decisions One of the best ways to combat decision fatigue is to turn critical actions into habits. When something becomes a habit, it no longer requires mental effort—it’s automatic.
A Framework for Long-Term Success This final step brings everything together. To make your 2025 speaking goals a reality, you need to:
When you apply this five-step framework consistently, your goals become not just possible—but inevitable. And the best part? You won’t need to rely on willpower alone. With the right systems, habits, and mindset in place, you’ll have the tools to keep going, no matter what challenges come your way. Your Next Step: Apply the Framework to Your 2025 Speaking Goals What’s one small habit you can create today that moves you toward your goal? Start small, build momentum, and don’t let decision fatigue hold you back. Whether it’s sending a pitch email, practicing a section of your keynote, or reaching out to a mentor—the key is to keep moving forward. Hey, hey, Reader! If you're a reader like I am, listen up because I've got a GOOD one for you today. Get Likeable Badass for yourself Hot take 👉 Likable Badass by Alison Fragale should be required reading for all professional women Last week, I heard Alison at Biz 417’s Ladies Who Launch. It was perfect timing as I’d already been reading and discussing the book with 2 of my leadership coaching clients. Alison kicked off her keynote with a fun tweet shot saying that women really want 3 things:...
Hey-o Reader, This might be controversial, but I believe women are hard-wired to be impactful, generous speakers. Hear me out. When my son Garrett was about 5, he had a doctor’s appointment to get his well-kid shots.Since his dad got off work earlier than I did, he was on doctor duty that day. That morning, Garrett was asking about the plan...who was taking him, why I couldn’t go, what time he’d be back. I finally asked, “G, why do you want me to take you?” He looked at me and said, “Because...
